First we’ll explore the potential of spindle turning with kiln-dried wood. Once we have mastered those skills we will move on to the smooth buttery cuts made in turning fresh-cut green wood. By the end of the workshop, students will have three to five finished projects to take home.

Media & Techniques: Green and kiln-dried wood. Spindle (between centers) and bowl turning techniques; a variety of texturing and finishing techniques.

Activities: Each day will begin with demonstrations and hands-on instruction. A majority of time will be spent on individual projects.

Skill level: Levels I - II (Minimum Skill Level I)

Faculty: Brad Reed Nelson is a professional furniture designer and founder of Board By Design, a functional design company that has been in the Roaring Fork Valley for 8 years. He has taught at the Ranch many times. www.boardbydesign.com
