Bosch plans to buy parts of Freud Group

Mergers and acquisitions are commonplace in today’s business world, and the woodworking industry is not immune to such actions. Bosch Power Tools announced in December the planned acquisition of parts of the Freud Group, including four Freud manufacturing sites in Italy, as well as sales companies in North America, China, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Niche magazine announces craft finalists

Niche magazine recently announced the finalists for its 2009 Niche Awards competition in the professional division. The annual awards program recognizes the outstanding creative achievements of North American craft artists who produce work for craft galleries and retail shops. Jurors selected 149 finalists out of more than 1,000 entries in 34 categories.

An eye on 18th-century bedroom furniture

The 11th annual Working Wood in America Conference at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Va., will focus on bedroom furniture during the 2009 sessions set for Jan. 7-10 and Jan. 11-14. As opposed to previous conferences when the theme has been a single piece of furniture such as a chair or table, the 2009 theme opens up a variety of possibilities. Members of the Anthony Hay Cabinet Shop and several textile specialists at Colonial Williamsburg will be joined by educator, craftsman and inlay specialist Steve Latta to conduct conference demonstrations.
