MAKITA'S 18-VOLT LXT LITHIUM-ION CORDLESS IMPACT DRIVER KIT, model BTD141, is an improved version of its BTD140 model, with more power, a "one-touch" chuck, built-in LED light and a compact design, according to the company. The variable speed driver delivers 1,330 in. lbs. of maximum torque, 3,200 impacts per minute and 2,300 rpm for a wide range of fastening tasks. The BTD141 impact driver is designed for woodworkers, plumbers, HVAC, automotive mechanics and others for fastening screws, tightening down lag bolts, and drilling holes. The impact driver is 5-3/4" long and weighs only 3.4 lbs. with battery. The Makita BTD141 kit, includes two 18V LXT Lithium-Ion (3.0 Ah) batteries, a 30-minute rapid optimum charger and case. DRIFTMASTER FENCE, previously available only for Laguna band saws, is now being manufactured in kit form for customers who own band saws built by brands other than Laguna Tools. The DriftMaster fence system provides precision adjustment for the band-saw fence by using a "quick-set" wheel. The Laguna product's micro-adjustment handle allows for accurate and repeatable veneer cuts when using the outside edge of the blade. A Hi/Low fence system takes seconds to change and is extra long to provide additional support, according to Laguna. The DriftMaster fence is priced at $395. CLAMPTITE TOOL, from Lee Valley, can make permanent hose clamps, strengthen cracked wooden handles, repair cut garden hoses and be used for other workshop projects. The user simply needs to thread the tool with wire, make a few wraps around the tool and the item to be clamped, and then turn the wing nut that applies leverage to tighten the wire. Clamptite is made of aluminum and chrome-plated steel and uses wire up to .062" in diameter. The tool is sold for $24.50; 1/4-lb. coils (about 50') of .041" 304 stainless steel-wire are available for $12.50 each; and the tool and one coil can be purchased as a set for $32.
