Vacuum Pressing Systems Inc., a manufacturer of vacuum bag systems and vacuum presses, has introduced its two-sided VacuClamp pods designed to hold work pieces firmly for sanding and routing applications. Each 4" x 4" x 5/8" aluminum vacuum pod has a spring-loaded release valve for independent two-sided clamping, and a removable plug for permanent mounting. The two-sided suction pods provide a clear work surface and eliminate the need for clamps.

Steel City Tool Works has introduced a patented helical cutterhead to its 13" portable planer, the first company to include that feature as standard fare. The 2" diameter cutterhead has 26 indexable HSS (high-speed steel) inserts, with each knife having four cutting sides.

ShopBot Tools has developed an aftermarket accessory, the Retro Z Axis, that replaces the old-style Z axis assembly on ShopBot’s PR and PRT CNC models manufactured until 2006. The new Z axis is the same as the one used on ShopBot’s current PRS line of tools and greatly increases rigidity and accuracy of the older machines, according to Gordon Bergfors, the company’s development director.

Pinske-Edge launched its new squaring press in May at the Kitchen/Bath Industry Show & Conference in Atlanta. The machine is designed to put a square chisel cut in the corner of cabinet doors, and is ideal for cabinetmakers that use wood and glass inset panels in their cabinet doors, according to the company.

Epilog Laser, a producer of CO2 and fiber laser engraving, cutting and marking systems, launched the Zing 24 laser engraver in March. The machine, which fits into the company’s entry-level product category, provides woodworkers with a wide variety of options for laser-engraving projects, such as box tops or panels.
