GREAT BOOK OF WOODWORKING TIPS from the editors of American Woodworker magazine, includes more than 650 solutions to common woodworking problems. It’s well-organized — covering the use of machinery, tools and shop accessories — and features sharp photography. Standout tips include sharpening blades and bits; making drawer slides that glide and never wear out; eliminating snipe; flattening warped wood, and clamping and gluing awkward miters and curved parts. The 336-page softcover sells for $24.95. Published by Fox Chapel Publishing.
FIXTURES AND CHUCKS FOR WOODTURNING, by Doc Green, is mostly about attaching wood to a lathe so it can be turned. Its detailed instruction ranges from making a simple screw chuck to a complete vacuum chucking system. It also includes more than 30 projects made with the chucks and fixtures described in the book. The 176-page softcover sells for $22.95. Published by Fox Chapel.
JOINTER, distributed by Fox Chapel Publishing as part of its Missing Shop Manual publications, ventures beyond basic safety, assembly and setup. The title is a bit misleading because it also covers planer and router table operation. The reader will learn proper setup and techniques for jointing and planing, as well as methods for shaping wood with tapers and chamfers, and sharpening and adjusting knives. The 80-page softcover sells for $9.95. Published by Fox Chapel.
