Dremel rolls out new Multi-Max options

Dremel has introduced its Multi-Max oscillating tool system, featuring two tools with expanded features and application capabilities, model MM20 and MM40.

The MM20 is an upgraded version of Dremel’s previous Multi-Max model at the same price point, but with more features and benefits for the user, according to product manager John Holbuh.

“This new tool has a larger motor and a bigger fan with more vent locations, so it runs a lot cooler, but is not much bigger than its predecessor. We kept the same relative compact size but were able to go from a 1.5-amp motor to a 2.3-amp motor, which means more power and smoother [operation] for the end user,” says Holbuh.

Holbuh says oscillating tools are valued for their versatility and the Dremel brand caters to that by offering a large range of accessories for different applications, such as cutting, sanding and scraping.

“A key component of these Multi-Max tools is their ability to do plunge or flush cuts. It’s unique that you can plunge a blade straight into an object, whereas with a lot of other tools you need a lot more space to maneuver the tool and get it into a cut.

“This tool is very precise and that’s why woodworkers love it.”

The MM40 is a step up from the MM20, featuring a 2.5-amp soft start motor, Dremel’s “Quick Lock” accessory change system, and an electronic feedback system.

“The electronic feedback allows for you to have a little bit more power and reserve to keep the high rate of oscillation so you continue to get a smooth cut,” says Holbuh.

Both tools also feature soft grip handles, light bodies for enhanced comfort and 7’ rubber power cords for added mobility, according to the company.

The MM20 sells for $99.99, while the MM40 is priced at $149.99. Both tools are compatible with all of Dremel’s oscillating accessories.
