General International has updated its aftermarket sliding table, the Excalibur 60", model 50-SLT60P. The table is designed to fit on almost any right- or left-tilt table saw, and is ideal for cabinet and furniture shops that have the need to cut wider stock or larger panels.
“We had been making the occasional minor tweak or change to these tables over the last few years, and we finally decided there was enough that could be done to improve the product that it was worth the expense of going through a full-scale redesign of the larger model and rename it 50-SLT60P — adding the ‘P’ for professional series,” says General’s Norm Frampton.
General enhanced the cross bracing substantially, including a new brace that bolts the entire assembly to the back of the saw. It also added an extra leg to the back end of the front rail to provide even more support for the table through the tail end of the cut. A row of multi-position mounting holes were also added to allow users to attach the legs to their brackets at different heights to compensate for uneven floors, for example.
“This is important to users because a sliding table system that is perfectly leveled and has this robust a support system can really be counted on for smooth square and accurate cuts even with the biggest sheet goods, time after time and cut after cut,” says Frampton.
The main mounting bracket is now a two-part system, featuring a repositionable mounting plate that can be secured to the main mounting bracket as needed, allowing the user to obtain up to 72" cutting capacity.
Frampton says the new mounting bracket is better fit for left-tilt saws. With the previous bracket, the upper portion of the motor cover door and even some motors on many left-tilt saws obstructed the clearance below the table that was required to mount any aftermarket system.
General has also added positive stops at 15, 22-1/2, 30 and 45 degrees on the angle adjustment rail for miter cuts.
“This takes the guesswork out of setting the crosscut fence,” adds Frampton.
As an added convenience, General has also added storage hooks on the outside rails to allow the user to safely stow the crosscut fence.
The 50-SLT60P is available from Excalibur/General International retail distributors throughout North America for $1,379.00. The sliding table measures 31" x 30" and requires a working floor space of 105" (front to rear) and 40" (to the left or right of the saw). It weighs 140 lbs.
