Felder Group USA has introduced the GlueBox system as a revolutionary way to achieve edge banding applications easily and effortlessly using PUR edge banding without a glue pot. A component to the Felder Format4 Tempora F600 60.06 edgebander, the GlueBox works with the machine to apply a thin PUR adhesive strip to the edge of material passing through, replacing traditional PUR glue adhesive.

The company, headquartered in Austria as Felder Group, first introduced the concept to the U.S. in 2020 and won a Visionary new product award in the components category at last year’s AWFS.

“The GlueBox was so unexpected to see at the show. I’ve heard about it through the manuals and advertising but to see it in action was something else. I definitely see how it will be different than your average edge banding process, but it will save a lot of time in the cleanup process,” Justin Mullen, a Felder field technician, told Woodshop News.

The PUR adhesive strip is fused almost invisibly between the edge material and the workpiece. Benefits include heat and water resistance, a very small glue joint, as well as reduced glue consumption and the elimination of manual cleaning. It’s ready to use in only 90 seconds and is available in three coiled lengths, according to the company.

“With the Tempora edgebander by our Format4 brand, combined with the GlueBox system, it creates the core strengths of speed, productivity, flexibility and user-friendliness in an impressive complete package. As such, the final finishing results when processing both coiled and strip material meet the increased demands of complete edge banding processing in every aspect,” the company said in a statement.

“Taking all costs into account - the investments, adhesive material consumption and cleaning costs - in the effective field of application, the GlueBox saves approximately 70 percent compared to conventional PUR granulate processing.”
