Felder to unveil safety technology at LIGNA.
The Felder Group, a manufacturer of woodworking machinery, will introduce saw safety technology at the LIGNA 2019 trade fair, May 27-31, In Hanover, Germany.
With the company’s Preventative Contact System, the saw blade serves as a sensor surrounded by an invisible ‘curtain’ that detects a human body’s magnetic field. Upon detection of an unexpected, fast approach within the saw blade area, PCS triggers the safety mechanism, lowering the blade. The safety environment surrounds the saw blade and protects against access from all directions, according to Felder.
“When the risk of an accident is detected, the PCS triggers, at the speed of light, the lowering of the saw blade under the saw table. The functionality based on the electro-magnetic law of repulsion allows for an all-time extremely short response time of a few milliseconds,” says Robert Tratter, head of R&D at the Felder Group.
The PCS system will be offered with the Format-4 Kappa 550 sliding table panel saw in the European market.
“The system is amazing. No one else has anything comparable to the system. It acts without being touched, it drops down at light speed without causing any damage, and the customer is able to restart the machine right away,” adds Tratter.
