Festool has updated its compact plunge router. The third-generation tool, model OF 1010 R, features column clamps on both sides for more accurate routing, an easy to access work area for rapid bit replacement, and better dust collection, according to the company.

“We took some of the things that we’ve done on our other machines and incorporated them here,” says product manager Rick Bush. “It has a much easier to use depth control that can be adjusted in seconds, and it also has much easier access to the router bit.

“We also improved the dust collection. In the past we had a molded base, and it had an oval-shaped dust port. It worked it but took a little muscle to attach the hose. Now it’s a round port with a bayonet connection. We can also now put a large diameter hose on it.”

The tool’s routing depth can be adjusted to the nearest 1/256” (0.1 mm). A wide variety of system accessories are available including a guide stop, template bushings, edge guide, guide rails and the LR 32-hole drilling set. In addition, it’s compatible with Festool’s mobile dust extractors.

Festool offers a kit (OF 1010 REQ-F-Plus, item No. 576922) for $499 that includes a chip catcher, 1/4” and 5/16” diameter clamping collets, and storage container.
