Hitachi Power Tools introduced the 18-volt Lithium-Ion DGL series drill/driver, model DS18DGL, in May. The tool is well-balanced and comfortable for extended use, says product manager Brett Bishop.

“Hitachi has optimized the design thanks to the slide-type lithium-ion battery pack that eliminates the vertical cell battery chamber. This permits the handle to be ergonomically designed, resulting in improved comfort and greater control. The feel of the tool in hand reflects Hitachi’s detailed attention to balance, grip and pressure points; making this tool extremely comfortable to use,” says Bishop.

The tool features a 22+1 clutch, offering 22 torque settings and a drill mode and two-speed gear setting.

An LED worklight points upwards from the base of the tool to better illuminate the bit tip and avoid casting shadows. It also features variable-speed trigger and weighs less than 4 lbs.

Hitachi says the tool’s charger will refresh the slide-type battery in about 35 minutes or less. The charger features overload and over-discharge protection.

The drill/driver is covered by Hitachi’s lifetime lithium-ion tool warranty, two-year battery warranty and one-year charger warranty.
