Lamello U.S.A. has introduced a cordless version of its Zeta P2, a profile biscuit joiner for the company’s P-System connectors. It can be used to accurately join components in solid wood, plywood, MDF, particleboard, plastics, solid surface and more, without the burden of a cord.
“The regular corded version has been out since 2010, so this is a great addition because it offers a lot more flexibility. Especially if you have somebody that’s working on a jobsite where they may not have access to power readily available or if they’re working outside,” says Chris Hoffman, product manager for Lamello U.S.A. “There’s really no difference in power between this and the corded machine.”
The P-System is a concealed, self-clamping connector system with connectors of various sizes made of fiberglass and reinforced plastic. The Zeta P2 is a hand tool that offers CNC-level precision cuts at various depths for placement of the connectors, according to the manufacturer. It’s key feature, which differentiates it from Lamello’s Classic X biscuit joiner, is the integrated vertical mechanical drive on its cutting spindle.
“At the end of the cut, that drive makes the cutter jump up and down within the slot, and that’s what creates the profile pocket for the P-System connectors. The P-System fittings are manually inserted into these grooves, ensuring a fast form-locking anchorage,” Hoffman says.
With the P-System, “anybody doing custom woodwork where they’ve got to bring large components into a jobsite, they’re able to assemble them on a jobsite without clamps or glue,” adds Hoffman. “Another application is clamping miters and bevels, those are rather difficult assemblies to clamp in the woodworking world, and the P-System excels at that.”
The Zeta P2 can also be used as a standard biscuit joiner. The cordless model sells at as kit (101801DS) for $2,100, which includes the tool, two 18-volt LiHD 4.0 Ah batteries, one charger and P-System diamond-tipped cutter, and accessories.
