VERITAS MINIATURE SHOULDER PLANE is a miniature version of the medium shoulder plane and was developed out of a desire to test the limitations of materials, design and manufacturing, according to the manufacturer.
The plane weighs only 1.7 oz. and measures 2-1/2" long by 1/4" wide, the smallest plane the company has made to date. Despite its size, it is fully functional and effective for fine trimming or cleaning the bottoms of narrow dados.
The investment-cast stainless-steel body has a fixed mouth with a machined sole and ground sides. A low 15-degree bed angle combined with the 25-degree blade bevel provides a 40-degree cutting angle. The plane sells for $29.50. Contact: Lee Valley Tools Ltd., P.O. Box 1780, Ogdensburg, NY 13669-6780. Tel: 800-871-8158. www.leevalley.com
