Wood-Mizer will have a battery-powered version of its LT15WIDE portable sawmill available by next spring, the company said.

Billed as an industry first, the sawmill runs on four to six Li-ion batteries that weigh about 20 pounds each.

Wood-Mizer, which currently offers gas, diesel and electric versions of the LT15WIDE, says demand led to innovation.

“Wood-Mizer strives to provide the sawing industry with the most choices to accommodate various applications and preferences,” John Smith, Wood-Mizer’s CEO, said in a statement. “We take pride in closely listening to our customers and the industry and willingly invest in research and development in new products. Most importantly, we are committed to pushing the industry to the next level.”

The LT15WIDE has a 36” log diameter sawing capacity. The battery version features Smart Feed technology to monitor amperage while sawing and control the feed rate for optimal performance, a powered saw head to raise or lower the blade, and an onboard computer that can store custom cutting programs.

The LT15WIDE battery-powered portable sawmill, with four batteries and a six-battery charger, starts at $26,995. Pre-orders are currently being accepted.
