It’s a woodworker’s dream – owning a turn-key operation that includes:

  • A fully equipped and recently renovated woodshop and showroom
  • A fully stocked log yard
  • Equipment that includes a CNC router, a dry kiln, a sawmill, and all the requisite yard equipment
  • A full inventory of thousands of cut slabs and raw logs

After fifty years building his business, owner Ed Allen is finally ready to hang up his overalls. The entire set-up in St. Peter, Minnesota, including the high-end table manufacturing business, is available for purchase. And Ed has offered to be part of the deal (if so desired) for long enough to answer all the new owner’s questions and give them a running start.

Ed Allen Designs specializes in procuring raw logs throughout the USA and then mills, dries and manufactures in-house. The company runs the gamut from forest to furniture, providing any prospective owner with a rare, established opportunity to enjoy a most rewarding experience in the yard, shop and showroom.

The Ed Allen process begins with locating large, finest quality, highly figured logs in species such as American black walnut, highly figured live edge maple burls from the west coast, red and American elm, red and white oak, and ash. After they arrive at the Minnesota yard, these logs are sawed into slabs on a band mill that can cut up to sixty-six inches wide and supported by a thirty-two-foot-long deck. Next the slabs are stickered and air dried on sticks for about a year, before being kiln dried down to a moisture content of 6-8%.

Ed Allen Designs prefers to include its customers in the design process, to ensure they are 100% satisfied with the results. Ed likes to take customers through the slab inventory and help them select perfect pieces for their projects. Once that’s completed, the slabs are flattened and smoothed on both faces on a CNC, and then subjected to a proprietary process to build and deliver the highest quality live or straight edge tables and countertops.

Ed Allen Designs has perfected a technique that combines beautiful hardwood and colorful, resilient epoxy to create amazing, one-of-a-kind, custom-made tables that complement and augment a client’s home, cabin or condo. Plus, the company ships nationwide at competitive rates. These pieces are art and customers talk about handing down to next generations.

Following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather and father, Ed Allen has spent a lifetime in the timber business, buying and selling logs both domestically and internationally. His experience and contacts give a potential buyer a serious advantage in this area. Along the way, Ed has retained some of the best logs to build custom, live edge and epoxy tables. He believes that every tree should have a second life, and pursuing that he has developed access to the some of the largest and finest hardwoods in the country. The company now has a plentiful supply of sustainability-sourced classic American hardwoods.

Ed Allen Designs also sells raw hardwood slabs for hobbyist and small shop projects. The company has thousands to choose from, and specializes in filling everything from individual needs to large multi-piece orders for designers, home remodelers, or home or cabin builders.

What they don’t have, they will find.

Among its range of activities, the company buys standing timber and cut logs from all corners of the country; mills both its own customers’ logs; offers custom saw-milling; provides custom lumber drying; consults on and/or manufactures tables and countertops; performs CNC-based surfacing and planing; designs and executes custom epoxy inlays; and does table resurfacing.

Imagine waking up this spring, standing on your deck with a cup of coffee, and gazing over nine acres of the world’s finest hardwoods, before you stroll to the shop and fire up the CNC.

Only in America. And only at Ed Allen Designs.
