New from Shaper: Studio and Plate

Since 2018, Shaper Origin has been revolutionizing the way that woodworkers work. Now Shaper Tools has announced two new products for woodworkers to help shops make perfect cuts. Studio is a simplified design tool, and Plate is a universal template and fixture for Shaper Origin, the world’s first handheld CNC router. These two new products demonstrate how intuitive digital workflows can integrate with, and aid, traditional woodworking.

“One of the biggest challenges for woodworkers working with CNC technology is creating the digital files to cut,” says Shaper CEO Joe Hebenstreit. “You have a sketch that might be a simple idea on paper, but it can take hours to transfer it to a sophisticated CAD program.”

To overcome that, Shaper Studio is a simplified 2D design tool that focuses on the features that matter most to craftspeople. In essence, it short-circuits the path from idea to production. And it omits the unnecessary and confusing features that have crept into one-size-fits-all design software. Simply put, Studio helps users spend more time building and less time fussing with a computer. Studio is available to anyone, not just Shaper Origin owners, who are looking for this kind of streamlined design tool. For $99 a year, users can have unlimited access to fonts, icons, and some powerful editing features such as Studio’s ShapeShifter, which is an intuitive shape combination tool that further speeds up the design process.

Adding digital precision to traditional workflows, the new Shaper Plate is a universal template and fixture for Shaper Origin. Plate makes it fast and seamless to install hardware and do other localized precision cutting operations. Combine Plate with the Shaper Hardware Catalog—a collection of Shaper-vetted digital hardware templates—for added efficiency when installing hardware. With Origin and Plate, installing a hinge, door pull, or other hardware is as easy as finding the file in the Hardware Catalog, aligning one of Plate’s four fence systems to a pencil mark, and then using Origin to create the mortise. Integrated with ShaperTape, Plate speeds up a huge variety of Origin operations such as installing bow ties, corner rounding, machining cable pass-throughs, engraving and more.
