Perfectly Perfect

There are a couple of different facets to making the perfect cut. It needs to be sharp and clean, accurately placed in the work, fast enough for a production run, and easy to change out when the tool gets dull, or a different profile is needed.

A new series of insert bits from Vortex Tool Company Inc. hits every one of those checkmarks. The company’s HSK Integrated V-Groove Cutters is a family of four tools that offer the reliable performance of Vortex’s popular 7000 series V-groove geometry, but in an integrated tool design. That is, the tool and toolholder are one piece. That eliminates the need to purchase a dedicated collet and toolholder for a shank style tool. It also provides greater accuracy for precise V-groove cuts. The machined seat pocket increases location surfaces for easy insert replacement, and it assures repeatability over other designs. The tool body comes with the necessary insert, screws and wrench, and the tools come in 30°, 45° and 60° options.

Also new from Vortex, and just as ready to make perfect cuts, is the Viper 3130XP. This is a 3/8” compression bit where the XP stands for "Xtreme Performance". Tools in this category are specifically manufactured to provide maximum tool life in melamine, high pressure laminate particleboard, and MDF materials. Users can expect three to five times more tool life compared to standard compression spiral geometry. The perfect cut delivered by this bit includes a chip free edge on both faces of the material being machined. Its cutting-edge length is 1-1/8”, and the tool is 3” long overall.
