When materials are sawn, shaped or routed, a clean edge with zero tear-out is every shop’s goal. Vortex Tool Company, Inc., delivers exactly that.

American owned and family operated, Vortex designs and manufactures a wide variety of standard and custom high-performance router and insert cutting tools. The company also provides re-tipping and sharpening services at its facility in Schofield, Wisc., where it produces tools with cutting edges in various grades of carbide, stellite, high-speed steel and polycrystalline diamond. Among these is the Xtreme Performance (XP) series of solid carbide tooling, which features precise cutting abilities and long life that are the result of extensive testing performed on the company’s own CNC test router.

Designed for difficult-to-cut materials, Vortex’s series 1300XP down-cut spiral tooling produces a clean top edge on dadoes, grooves and simple through-cuts. Ideal for cutting high pressure laminate (HPC), the company’s redesigned 3100XP compression spirals are manufactured using new techniques that deliver ten times the life of other tools. And Vortex’s 3400XP compression spirals with chip-breakers are designed to provide from three to five times more life than standard compression geometry. The chip-breaker design allows for free cutting action in solid wood and plywood.

For woodshops new to CNC routing, Vortex has a comprehensive tool package that includes everything from router and boring bits to changing stands, collets and tool holders. Company experts will consult with woodworkers to select the perfect set of tools and accessories for maximum efficiency, and most items are in stock for immediate shipping.

Vortex also manufactures an extensive line of insert tooling where the bodies are premium aircraft-grade steel that is heat-treated for strength and durability. Both new and replacement inserts meet strict tolerances with extremely sharp cutting edges and accurate profiles. They are precision-ground on a CNC profile grinder, followed by micro face lapping, and are high-speed precision balanced to an ISO rating of G2.5 or better.
