Woodcraft held its 20th annual Turn for Troops Turn-a-Thon on Nov. 4-5 at participating retail locations across the country.

Each year around Veterans Day, Woodcraft stores provide the space, tools and materials for woodturners of all skill levels to stop by and make a pen or two on the lathe.

Everyone is welcome, including children, if accompanied by an adult.

The initiative was started in 2004 to bolster the spirits of active duty, rehabilitating military service members, and veteran’s groups who receive pens free of charge.

More than 236,000 pens have been crafted, according to the company.

“Even after 20 years, we know this program is still meaningful for both the recipients and the turners,” Beth Coffey, Woodcraft’s vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. “It is an honor and a privilege to facilitate the work of the volunteers as a way for all of us to show our appreciation for our Armed Forces members.”
